2011 and 111 mystery

Have you ever heard the so called 111 mystery?

If no, here it is:

A. Take the last two digits of your year of birth. eg. if 1983, then take 83.

B. Take your age for this year. eg. 2011 – 1983 = 28.

The 111 mystery: A+B = 83 + 28 = 111.

What a mystery!!

OK. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t buy this so-called mystery. In fact, I laughed at it.

I even invent my own mystery to demonstrate how silly the 111 mystery is. I called my mystery, “The 123 MYSTERY”.

My 123 mystery goes like this:

A. Take the last two digits of your year of birth.
if 1983, then take 83.

B. Add the result in A with 1+2+3 (That’s why I called it 123 mystery).
83+1+2+3 = 89

C. Take your age for this year.
2011 – 1983 = 28.

D. Add the result in C with 1+2+3.
28+1+2+3 = 34.

The 123 mystery: B+D = 89+34 = 123.

Ha-ha. If you wonder how I invent this mystery and to solve the 111 mystery, listen carefully…

The trick here is, at the very start of the process, you’ve minus 1900 from the equation!!

Example, when you were instructed to take 83 from 1983, it is actually same as saying, please minus 1900 from 1983.

When 111 add with 1900 you get 2011.

So, my 123 mystery is actually… 123 + 1900 = 2023. I figured out that, to get to 2023 from 2011, you have to add 2011 with 12. Then I split 12 by two, to get two 6(6+6 = 12). Then for the sake of a mystery, instead of telling you to add with 6, I instruct you to add with 1+2+3(which is equal to 6 by the way).

I think whoever create the 111 mystery must be trying to make a fool out of your Math IQ. :D
